……. As imprisoned CCC Chivi South nominated council candidate seeks freedom at Masvingo High Court today
Yesterday, Mr Trust Manjengwa, Zaka South CCC nominated parliamentary candidate, was arrested by heavily armed police while having a party meeting with other CCC members at his homestead. The police alleged that he held a party meeting without police clearance.
However, he was released from police custody after being warned and cautioned.
According to human rights lawyer, Advocate Derrick Charamba, “Mr Trust Manjengwa was arrested for illegally holding a CCC party meeting at his house in Zaka South ward 25.”
Also, Advocate Charamba confirmed that Mr Manjengwa was released from police custody and is currently in a safe place, and they are still assessing his situation.
Few minutes ago, Mr Manjengwa confirmed that he is safe and resting via WhatsApp message.
The CCC peace champions were quick to spread the message about Mr Trust Manjengwa’s arrest, and we thank them for that, said one CCC member who refused to be named for fear of victimization.
The recent arrest of Mr Trust Manjengwa, a Zaka South CCC nominated parliamentary candidate, has sparked concerns over the ability of opposition parties to conduct their political activities freely in Zimbabwe.
Some have criticized the police’s actions, saying that they are politically motivated and an attempt to suppress the opposition.
Meanwhile, another CCC candidate, Mr Ishmael Zireva, is seeking bail at Masvingo High Court after being sentenced to four months in prison for poking the nose of a FAZ member. His lawyer, Advocate Martin Mureri, believes that the sentence is too harsh and hopes that the judge will grant his client bail. The case highlights the need for fair and impartial judgments in Zimbabwe’s judicial system, especially in cases involving opposition candidates.
Overall, the recent developments in Zimbabwe’s political landscape demonstrate the challenges faced by opposition parties in conducting their political activities freely.
