Councillor Ushe has become the first CCC councillor to step down in solidarity with President Nelson

6th February 2024 Wezhira Munya Mrs Alleta Ushe [nee Dzanya] Proportional Representative councillor for Mudzi Rural District Council from the Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party, has resigned from her position on the council. [See attached resignation letter] This marks the first resignation of a CCC councillor in support of President Nelson Chamisa’s departure from the party. Mr Thomas Mbetu commented that, councillor Ushe is very brave to resign from council without getting benefits such as house stands, business stand and salaries. Councillor Ushe’s resignation sets a historic precedent as the first council resignation across Zimbabwe in solidarity with President Chamisa. In her resignation letter addressed to the Minister of Local Government, she stated, “I hereby tender my immediate resignation as the PR Councillor for Mudzi RDC, elected under the Citizens Coalition for Change in August 2023.” Furthermore, in the letter, Councillor Ushe explained her reason for resigning, stating, “…I am no longer a member of CCC following the resignation of Nelson Chamisa as the party’s leader.” The Mudzi Rural District Council management and councillors received the resignation letter on the 5th of February 2024. Resignation in solidarity with President Chamisa: Harare East MP Markham dumps CCC Tshabangu

3rd February 2024 Wezhira Munya On the 2nd of February 2024, honourable Allan Rusty Markham, a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party representing Harare East officially resigned from his position in the Zimbabwean parliament. Hon Markham wrote to Speaker of Parliament hon. Jacob Mudenda stating, “….I write to tender my resignation from parliament with immediate effect, as required under by the section 129[1]b of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.” [See the attached letter of resigning from Hon. Markham from honourable Markham to Speaker of Parliament] He resigned from the Zimbabwean parliament in a show of support and solidarity for President Chamisa. This move has sparked speculation that advocate Tendai Biti will contest the Harare East seat following Markham’s resignation. Hon. Markham, who defeated CCC Tshabangu vice president Tendai Biti during the party’s “primary elections”, decided to step down after witnessing Biti’s collaboration with Sengezo Tshabangu to oppose President Chamisa, Markham himself, and other pro-Chamisa councillors and parliament members. Markham’s resignation follows a similar move by advocate Fadzayi Mahere, the former CCC spokesperson and member of parliament for Mount Pleasant, who resigned from her parliamentary position the previous week. President Chamisa visits advocate Sikhala at his house

3rd February 2024 Wezhira Munya On February 2, 2024, President Nelson Chamisa marked his 46th birthday by paying a visit to advocate Job Sikhala at his residence in Harare. The purpose of the visit was to welcome advocate Sikhala after he spend long time in prison, engaging in discussions on various matters and share a moment of prayer together. President Chamisa, in celebrating his birthday, chose to spend some time with advocate Sikhala, with whom he has a longstanding political history of collaboration in different political parties: MDC under late President Tsvangirai, MDC Alliance and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party. However, President Chamisa had been unable to visit advocate Sikhala during his time in prison due to security concerns raised by the prison authorities. Nonetheless, President Chamisa and numerous members of the CCC party showed their support by attending advocate Sikhala’s court proceedings and writing letters to the Zimbabwean government, embassies, and international entities, urging for his release. The president [Chamisa] also used his popular social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook, to call for advocate Sikhala’s freedom. Advocate Sikhala, who had spent over 500 days in Chikurubi Maximum Prison, was finally released on January 30, 2024.
