Thousands of citizens from various parts of Zimbabwe came together yesterday in Chipinge to bid farewell and pay their respects to the late Clayton Masiyatsva, former Mayor of Redcliff. The funeral took place on January 28th, 2024, following Mayor Masiyatsva’s passing on January 24th after a brief illness.

The ceremony saw the attendance of prominent figures, including Hon. Amos Chibaya, Hon. Prosper Mutseyami, Hon. Monica Mukwada, Hon. Happymore Chidziva, as well as mayors and councillors from Redcliff and other areas, Redcliff council managment and staff, friends, traditional leaders, church and relatives from different regions of Zimbabwe.
Hon. Chibaya expressed deep sadness over the loss of a true democrat who had worked closely with the late President Morgan Tsvangirai and former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) President Nelson Chamisa.
Mayor Masiyatsva was known for his collaboration with President Tsvangirai and President Chamisa in their efforts to promote democracy.
Hon. Monica Mukwada, former CCC national women taskforce leader, described Mayor Masiyatsva as a dedicated champion for change and an exemplary mayor who served Redcliff with distinction.
Unfortunately, he passed away before completing his term, despite having a great vision for transforming Redcliff into a town that would provide world-class services, including clean water.
Mayor Councillor Alec Tabe of Masvingo City expressed his devastation at the loss of the hardworking Mayor Masiyatsva, highlighting his ambitious plans to improve the fortunes of Redcliff.
Hon. Happymore Chidziva, who had worked alongside Masiyatsva for over 20 years fighting for democracy and he [Hon. Chidziva] described him as a dear friend to the Redcliff community and beyond. May Mayor Masiyatsva’s soul rest in eternal peace.
