The opposition through it’s deputy President Tendai Biti is on record exposing massive corruption dealings done by people like Kuda Tagwirei and Billy Rautenbach. Even before the gold mafia documentary was released, Biti did a lot of press conferences and interviews explaining how Gold is being smuggled out of Zimbabwe and how such levels of looting are destroying Zimbabwe.
It really baffles me when one suggests that the opposition is doing nothing, in 2020 and 2021 over 40 MPs were unjustly recalled from parliament during the course of their work. Their headquarters was taken away from them, almost 60% of current opposition MPs have cases in courts, a systematic and well organized persecution that is meant to distract them from doing their work, so that they spend their time in courts answering to bogus charges.
The opposition in Zimbabwe has faced too much persecution at the hands of an incumbent government than any opposition political party in Southern Africa. From arrests, to beatings, torture, abductions. Recalls from parliament and infiltration.
The political terrain in Zimbabwe is rough, all state institutions are against the opposition. ZRP is fighting the opposition, ZNA is fighting the oppositon, ZEC is fighting the opposition, the CIO is fighting the opposition, the judiciary is fighting the opposition. In fact CCC is a banned organization in Zimbabwe.
Whilst it is good to demand or to expect more from the opposition, it would be fair to at least acknowledge the little good that they are doing under very difficult circumstances, it would be fair to acknowledge the little degree of seriousness and the intention of wanting change that the opposition has exhibited. The opposition needs the support of every progressive citizen.
Of course the opposition is not perfect, in fact they must be criticized just like any other organization. But it should be remembered that Zimbabwean problems are bigger than the opposition, the opposition has been in existence for the past 23 years. But the masses have been suffering for more than 40 years. We need everyone to be involved in fighting against ZANU PF.
