25th January 2024 Wezhira Munya Hon. Monica Mukwada, the dedicated former leader of the National Women Taskforce of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has officially resigned from the CCC party. In a show of solidarity and support for President Nelson Chamisa, who also left the CCC today, Hon. Mukwada announced her departure from the party. Speaking to Change Radio, Hon. Mukwada stated, “I am resigning immediately as the CCC National Women Taskforce organizer. My decision to leave the CCC stems from President Chamisa’s departure and the fact that the CCC, under Tshabangu’s leadership, has become a proxy for Zanu PF.” Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim Secretary General of the CCC, is accused of colluding with Zanu PF and is considered by Mukwada to be an impostor within the CCC. President Chamisa formed the CCC on January 24, 2022, after leaving the MDC T [Alliance] party. This decision was prompted by ZANU-PF’s manipulation of the courts to install Douglas Mwonzora as the leader of the MDC-T, resulting in the downfall of the MDC under Mwonzora’s leadership. The recently launched CCC party utilized the color yellow as its distinctive identity, which quickly became synonymous with the political landscape of Zimbabwe and even extended beyond its borders. In 2023, President Chamisa’s largest campaign rally under the CCC party attracted an impressive turnout of over 100,000 Zimbabwean citizens. Notably, these attendees were not coerced or transported to the rally by means of buses or lorries; rather, they voluntarily chose to participate. 23 January 2024 Wezhira Munya The spokesperson of President Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change [CCC] party, Mr. Promise Mkwananzi, has announced that the party intends to appeal the High Court judgment that disqualified its candidates for the by-elections scheduled for 3rd February 2024. In a statement, Mr. Mkwananzi stated, “We will lodge the appeal with the Supreme Court within the specified time-frame.” If the CCC proceeds with the appeal, it could overturn the High Court’s decision on 19th January 2024, under Case number HCH197/24, and reinstate the CCC candidates, allowing them to participate in the upcoming by-elections. Mr. Mkwananzi urged CCC candidates, voters, supporters, and citizens to continue their campaigns in order to secure victory in the by-elections on 3rd February 2024. Zanu PF had already begun celebrating when the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) declared earlier today that CCC candidates were disqualified, automatically granting Zanu PF five council seats in Harare, Chiredzi, and Manyame Rural District Council.
