Dr. Munyaradzi Chidarikire
Tragically, we have lost a beloved member of our community, Ms. Abigail Mpofu (M241274) first year student, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Honours degree in Inclusive Education at the Robert Mugabe School of Education, Great Zimbabwe University. Abigail’s passing has left a profound impact on all who knew her, and her memory will be forever cherished.
According to her sister, Cynthia, Abigail died on the 24th of July 2024 in the afternoon at Matei Dei Hospital in Bulawayo. Abigail had been sick for a short period of time and was admitted to the hospital due to her illness. The writer of this article had spoken to her (Abigail) as recently as that morning around 6:30 AM, when Abigail had informed him of her hospitalization.
Abigail’s burial will take place tomorrow in Bulawayo, where she will be laid to rest. The church service will be held at the Unshakable Pentecostal Church, in Old Magwegwe at 8 am tomorrow, as shared by her sister, Cynthia.
Abigail was a dedicated and accomplished student, passionate about her studies in Inclusive Education. She maintained an impressive academic record, consistently earning lecturers’ and students’ recognition for her outstanding achievements. Her classmates and lecturers remember her as a kind, compassionate, and hardworking individual who always strived to bring out the best in those around her.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Abigail was deeply involved as a school teacher, in community, volunteering her time and efforts to various organizations. She was a member of the her church, where she championed initiatives to improve the lives of marginalized students. Abigail also volunteered at school and local community , providing emotional and educational support to the children in her care. Her selfless nature and willingness to help others made her a role model for her peers and a true inspiration to all who crossed her path.
The loss of Abigail Mpofu is a tragedy that has left a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her family, friends, and the entire Great Zimbabwe University community are mourning the untimely passing of a remarkable individual. Abigail’s lecturer of Health Life Skills, Dr. Munyaradzi Chidarikire, described her as “a shining example of what it means to be a compassionate and dedicated educator, someone who truly embodied the values of inclusive education.”
We encourage all who were close to Abigail, or who wish to pay their respects, to attend the burial service in Bulawayo. It is a time to come together, share memories, and celebrate the life of a woman whose impact will continue to be felt long after she is gone.
Abigail’s legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the positive change she sought to make in the world. Though her time with us was cut short, her spirit and the lessons she imparted will forever guide and inspire us. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
