In Masvingo’s 26 constituencies, the CCC successfully vetted and nominated members of parliament and presented their manifestos to the citizens. The top three candidates for members of parliament in each constituency were selected, and their names have been submitted to the responsible authorities.
Some CCC candidates in Masvingo urban, Chiredzi, and other areas were disqualified at the vetting stage. Masvingo urban council candidates did not present their manifesto. They will do so on a date to be advised. However, in the other 25 constituencies in Masvingo province, CCC-nominated council candidates presented their manifestos and were rated. Both CCC members of parliament and council candidates who were selected yesterday have great capacity to defeat Zanu PF, MDC T Mwonzora, and other small parties.
The final list of selected candidates will be officially announced in due course. One of the commissioners who refused to be named because she is not authorized to speak to the press said, “CCC members and community members in Masvingo Province have selected top-quality candidates in both rural and urban areas. We have youth, females, men, and people with disabilities who have been selected. The CCC is an inclusive party.” She further said, “The final list of candidates to represent the CCC party in the forthcoming harmonized elections will be released shortly by the powers that be.”
In Chivi South, CCC member Mr. Francis Makore was arrested by the police for illegally holding an unsanctioned community consensus meeting at his residence. However, Mr. Makore was later released by the police.
In Gutu West, Zanu-PF members Mr. Makuto and Mombo tried to disturb the CCC candidates caucus meeting held at Matizha. The mentioned Zanu-PF members failed to disrupt the CCC because CCC members stood their ground.
In other constituencies, there were no disruptions by police or Zanu-PF members. Furthermore, there were no incidents of violence among CCC members during candidate caucus meetings.
Hon. Chibaya said, “We want to congratulate CCC members for holding peaceful candidate consensus meetings.” This is high maturity.”
