Advocate Moses Mavhaire, a key member of President Nelson Chamisa’s team, demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of the people by generously distributing 10,600 kilograms of mealie meal to the citizens of Masvingo Central.
The distribution took place on May 18th, 2024, at Chesvingo village in ward 23.
This act of kindness aligns perfectly with President Chamisa’s vision of leadership, which emphasizes that the opposition, as a viable alternative government, must provide leadership in both favorable and challenging times.
The distribution of mealie meal, a staple food in Zimbabwe, was carried out among 1,060 households in Masvingo Central (each family got 10kg mealie meal). Advocate Mavhaire explained that his decision to provide mealie meal was driven by the prevailing drought that has affected not only their area but the entire country.
It is noteworthy that Advocate Mavhaire narrowly lost the 2023 harmonized parliamentary elections to Zanu PF candidate Edson Zvobgo Junior. However, unlike his opponent, Zvobgo Junior, who has allegedly neglected the Masvingo Central constituency less than a year after being elected, Advocate Mavhaire has remained dedicated to serving the citizens.
Mr. Ambrose Madara expressed disappointment in some politicians who only show up in the community seeking re-election but fail to fulfill their responsibilities. In contrast, Advocate Mavhaire has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the well-being of the citizens.
The distribution of mealie meal comes at a critical time when Zimbabwe is facing severe hunger due to the El Niño-induced drought. Advocate Mavhaire’s gesture of providing food to those in need without considering their political affiliations (both supporters of President Chamisa and members of other political parties included Zanu PF benefited) stands in contrast to the practices of some Zanu PF members, including parliamentarians and councillors, who distribute food along party lines.
A female resident of Masvingo Central, who preferred to remain anonymous due to fear of victimization by Zanu PF, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I want to thank Advocate Mavhaire for providing us with mealie meal. I am a Zanu PF supporter, but I benefited from the generosity of President Chamisa’s lieutenant. This mealie meal will feed me and my family.”
Mr. Jerryson Chitando, a former member of parliament who supports Presidemt Chamisa and hails from Masvingo Central, praised Advocate Mavhaire as a rare breed of politician who is pro-poor and maintains a strong connection with the citizens.
Advocate Mavhaire’s humanitarian work extends beyond the distribution of mealie meal. He has previously provided wheelchairs to people with disabilities, covered school fees for disadvantaged rural learners, and assisted citizens in starting income-generating programs such as soap making and gardening.
Additionally, Advocate Mavhaire has played a significant role in supporting Masvingo Central citizens with medical bills and funeral expenses, alleviating the burden on families during difficult times.
Recently, Advocate Mavhaire faced challenges when the police disrupted his Independence soccer and netball tournament, initially named the President Chamisa Independence tournament. However, with the resilience and defiance of Advocate Mavhaire and the citizens of Masvingo Central, the tournament eventually took place, overcoming the obstacles imposed by the authorities.
Mrs. Roswita Madzivire, President Chamisa’s Masvingo district cluster leader, commended Advocate Mavhaire for his remarkable efforts in improving the well-being of the citizens of Masvingo Central. The district leader emphasized the importance of such initiatives in creating a prosperous and compassionate society.
Advocate Mavhaire’s consistent dedication to the welfare of the people reflects President Chamisa’s vision for a compassionate and responsive government. As the opposition continues to demonstrate its commitment to the people, it presents a formidable alternative for the future of Zimbabwe.
