Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), the party led by President Nelson Chamisa has managed to field candidates in all 210 constituencies for the upcoming elections. This accomplishment has been met with gratitude from President Chamisa, who expressed his appreciation for the support received from citizens throughout the process.
President Chamisa also shed light on the financial aspect of this achievement, revealing that the total cost of nomination fees for the CCC’s MP candidates amounted to US$210,000 for constituency nominations and an additional US$30,000 for Proportional Representation. When factoring in council and presidential nominations, the overall expenditure exceeded US$600,000.
The CCC’s ability to fulfill these substantial fees despite their exorbitant nature is commendable. Senator David Coltart, a member of the CCC who will be running for Council in Bulawayo, expressed his delight at this feat. He highlighted the challenges faced by the party, including the lack of access to the voters’ roll, unfairly high nomination fees, and various obstacles created by FAZ and ZANU PF. However, despite these hindrances, the CCC successfully registered Nelson Chamisa as a presidential candidate and secured candidates for all parliamentary seats. In an estimated 90% of wards, the CCC managed to register candidates, demonstrating a widespread presence.
Senator Coltart reflected on the monumental achievement of the CCC, considering the adversity the party has faced. He emphasized that the CCC’s headquarters were illegally taken over, their funding was illegally reduced, and their leaders have been subjected to persecution and detention. In light of these circumstances, the successful registration of candidates is a testament to the resilience and determination of the CCC in its pursuit of political change
