CCC Chivi North member Masocha Mavuto was granted bail by Masvingo Regional Court magistrate Chineka. Mavuto’s bail is $50 000 rtgs.
Advocate Derrick Charamba represented Mavuto. Advocate Charamba said, “I am happy to announce that Mr. Mavuto was granted bail of $50 000rtgs in Masvingo today.”
CCC Chivi North’s nominated member of parliament, Mr. Chidaushe, and Masvingo Urban’s nominated ward 7 councillor, Mr. Struggle Nyahunda, are currently paying $50 000 rtgs bail at court. After payment of bail, Mr. Mavuto will be released from prison, and Mr. Chidaushe will take him home.
Mr. Mavuto has been in Masvingo remand prison for the past three weeks. Mavuto, through his lawyer, Advocate Charamba, applied for bail at Masvingo Regional Court after police in Chivi changed the case from assault to attempted murder. The change of the case from assault to attempted murder is politically motivated because the accused is a Citizens Coalition for Change supporter. This case is regarded as politically motivated, as a Zanu PF member accused Mavuto of beating him. However, Mr. Mauto denies ever beating the accused.
Mr. Chidaushe said, “Indeed, we are happy that Mr. Mavuto has been granted bail. I also want to thank advocate Charamba, CCC members, and Mr. Mavuto’s family for supporting Mr. Mavuto financially, materially, and through prayers.”
