The Magistrate explained to Mr. David Tekeshe, MP for Makoni Central of the MDC-T Party, that it is not required by the Constitution for an MP to speak at every burial in a constituency, therefore missing out on the chance does not constitute a crime.
Additionally, there were no MPs in our culture, but people still gathered to mourn their loved ones.
He continued by saying that when R.G. Mugabe passed away, no MP spoke because it is not required by Zimbabwe’s Constitution.
This came to light after the three witnesses who supported Mr. Tekeshe in this case told the court that the accused had not committed the alleged crime and that Mr. David Tekeshe had never been invited to speak on the program about these three funerals since they involved CCC members.
These 6 prisoners—Lovemore Chifomboti, Teddy Chipere, Talent Hare, Norman Makahamadze, Alfred Mahaso, and F Majawa—were consequently acquitted.
