It would seem as if some characters are already preparing for a post-Chamisa/post-CCC 2023 political set-up, dominated by an alleged ‘different brand of politics’, which would be itself dominated by different characters.
Preparations for such a scenario, is the current deligitimizing of many efforts by the Opposition & its leader(ship).
Those who care to listen, are already being fed the narrative that “Opposition failed to fight for reforms” & that a rigged elections would be CCC’s fault.”Electoral reforms”, in a dictatorship are a worst of time. ED showed his hand a long time ago, by going on a drive to ammendment the constitution & strengthen his position as president.
When a president behaves this way, thinking he can be convinced otherwise, is naivety. Funny enough, the Opposition could’ve only forced the Harare regime to behave, in two ways.
The first is obviously through Parliament.
However, when a party has some 40 or so MPs only, it’s impossible to enforce the legislation of favorable laws, let alone electoral reforms.
The second way is through the courts.
However, we already know how our courts behave.
Funny enough, when courts expectedly rule against the Opposition or CSOs, it’s the applicants who are blamed still, using some flimsy excuses and patronizing reactions to the obvious6. The self righteous authors of this narrative will even blame the opposition for “not going to court earlier” or not going to court at all, when it’s clear that at times, the Opposition acts through proxies, for strategic reasons.
Sadly, success has many fathers but failure is an orphan. But ofcourse, I personally take no part in shielding the Opp from warranted criticism.
They must find solutions because that’s the burden of leadership.
However, when “criticizing the Opposition” is done by characters who themselves think are beyond reproach, I yawn in disgust.
It’s easy to fight a dictatorship through tweets, threads & random ‘advice’.
Having to actually make the decisions, and directly accounting for the same, is a different ball game altogether.
The much hyped political brains on twitter won’t admit this reality. For those who care, if some characters tell you the “opposition didn’t fight for reforms”, demand that they qualify this claim.
If their response will hover around Parliament & court applications, then you ought to see through their gimmicks.
They sadly, do not mean well.
ZanuPF is responsible for our electoral crisis.
ZanuPF MPs are responsible for these draconian ammendments.
ZEC is responsible for illegalities around the VR & the shambolic delimitation
Our courts are responsible for legitimizing illegalities & constitutional breaches.
Find many other issues to raise against the Opp. There are there & are plenty.
However, accusing the Opposition of not doing something that you even fail to explain yourself is simply playing to the gallery.
That being said, I know many aren’t ready for this conversation…
