In the midst of ongoing chaos surrounding the inspection of the voters’ roll, members of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Party are facing difficulties finding their names on the roll at polling stations they have used for decades. The situation has sparked concerns and led CCC officials to claim that their party’s strategic decision to keep party structures and candidates undisclosed has proven to be effective.
One of the CCC Party officials, Agency Gumbo, took to Twitter to express his thoughts on the matter. Gumbo stated that the current situation validates President Nelson Chamisa’s wise approach of not hastily publicizing party structures and candidates. He said, “Our findings in the Voters’ Roll inspection process vindicate President Nelson Chamisa’s impeccable wisdom in not rushing to announce candidates. We can’t plunge ourselves into a sham process. The basics must be right first. ZEC must rectify all queries arising; otherwise, it’s a coup.”
Critics from the ZANU PF party have previously attacked and ridiculed the CCC, claiming it lacks structure and viable candidates. However, the CCC has argued that it refrains from revealing its structures and candidates to prevent infiltration by ZANU PF, which has been known to target opposition parties in the past. The recent actions taken by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) against known CCC officials holding positions, such as Ostallos and Parliamentarians Jasmine Toffa and Nicola Watson, further reinforce the CCC’s allegations of attempts by ZANU PF to remove senior party members from the voters’ roll.
