Yesterday, on the 20th of August, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member in Chivi Central, Mr. Edmore Mapamura, was attacked by members of Zanu-PF and Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ).
The ZANU-PF and FAZ members who attacked Mapamura were wearing Zanu-PF regalia and were driving a ZANU PF-branded white twin cab without number plates.
“I was attacked by Zanu PF and FAZ members while I was in the company of my wife and sister at the bus stop. I was severely beaten and sustained several injuries.” Mr. Mapamura said
Reached for a comment CCC aspiring member of parliament for Chivi Central, Hon. Makotose said “He, (Mapamura) was injured during the attack.” “One of the perpetrators pointed a gun at his forehead and threatened to kill him.”
Furthermore, Mr. Mapamura’s wife was brutally attacked by FAZ members three weeks ago. She remains highly traumatized after the Zanu PF attack. Her trauma has been compounded by her husband’s recent attack in her presence.
“This couple is in need of psychological counseling,” said Dr. Kudzayi Tarisayi.
The couple will report the case to the police and are currently receiving medical treatment at a private hospital.
Due to the fear of being killed by Zanu PF members, Mr. Mapamura is currently hiding in a safe house.
Mr. Mapamura further said, “I managed to escape from the violent Zanu-PF and FAZ members and now I am in a safe olace where I am seeking medical attention.”
CCC aspiring member of parliament, Mr. Makotose, condemned Zanu-PF’s violence, stating, “It is unfortunate that we have a political party that is abusing state resources to intimidate and use violence against its citizens. FAZ is well resourced by the ruling party to carry out these acts of violence. It is regrettable that Zanu PF preaches peace but acts violently.”
