…As MDC-T, under Mwonzora, fields zero candidates for Provincial council, youth quarter, senators, and Proportional Representatives.
MDC-T has suffered a painful demise under Mwonzora. This article unpacks the statistics of MDC-T’s successfully nominated candidates.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) released a full list of candidates yesterday who will stand in the 2023 harmonized elections.
Yesterday, the lists of 2023 presidential, parliamentary, Proportional Representatives, senators, youth quarter, and Provincial council aspiring candidates were published in the Government Gazette.
There are 637 parliamentary candidates competing for the 210 seats in the National Assembly.
A two-year-old, structureless party called CCC made history by managing to field a presidential candidate, 210 parliamentary candidates, senators, youth quarter, Proportional Representatives, and Provincial council members.
However, the MDC party, formed in 1999, failed dismally to field candidates in many constituencies.
A close analysis of the lists of candidates published by ZEC in the Government Gazette proves that Mwonzora threw the MDC party under the bus.
MDC Mwonzora has managed to field 14 parliamentary candidates out of the 210 constituencies.
Additionally, MDC-T Mwonzora fielded only 10 out of 60 senators.
Furthermore, MDC-T managed to field 6 out of 100 Provincial council members.
Lastly, MDC-T managed to field 12 out of 60 Proportional Representatives and 2 out of 20 youth quarter members.
The next section reveals a sad and painful reality through an analysis of the numbers of MDC-T candidates per province:
In Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, MDC-T has zero senators, zero Proportional Representatives, zero youth quarter, zero Provincial council, and zero members of parliament.
In Harare, MDC-T has zero members of parliament, zero Provincial council, zero women quarter, and youth quarter.
In Manicaland province, MDC-T fielded 3 members of parliament, zero Provincial council members, 4 senators, 6 Proportional Representatives, and zero youth quarter members.
In Mashonaland Central, MDC-T has zero members of parliament, zero Provincial council members, zero senators, zero Proportional Representatives, and zero youth quarter.
In Mashonaland East, MDC-T has zero members of parliament, zero Provincial council members, zero senators, zero Proportional Representatives, and zero youth quarter.
In Mashonaland West, MDC-T has zero members of parliament, zero Provincial council members, zero senators, zero Proportional Representatives, and zero youth quarter.
In Matabeleland North, MDC-T has 6 aspiring members of parliament, 6 Provincial council members, 6 senators, 6 Proportional Representatives, and 2 youth quarter members.
In Matabeleland South, MDC-T has zero members of parliament, zero Provincial council members, zero senators, zero Proportional Representatives, and zero youth quarter.
In Masvingo Province, MDC-T has one member of parliament, zero Provincial council members, zero senators, zero Proportional Representatives, and zero youth quarter.
In Midlands province, MDC-T has 4 members of parliament, zero Provincial council members, zero senators, zero Proportional Representatives, and zero youth quarter.
The failure to field candidates shows that Mwonzora does not have the support of the youth, women, and the main structures across Zimbabwe
