Mrs. Zodwa Dabengwa (nee Khumalo), the widow of the late national hero and liberation war stalwart Cde Dumiso Dabengwa, passed away yesterday in the United Kingdom. Her husband, the former Zipra intelligence supremo, had passed away in 2019 while en-route to Zimbabwe from India for medical treatment. He was 79 years old at the time of his death.
The news of Mrs. Dabengwa’s passing has brought condolences from various individuals and organizations. President Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), expressed his condolences to the Dabengwa family. In a tweet, President Chamisa described Mrs. Dabengwa as a decent character, a true heroine, a caring mother, a source of encouragement, and a pillar of strength. He acknowledged her impact on the lives of many and extended his sympathies to the Dabengwa and Khumalo families. President Chamisa concluded his message with a heartfelt expression: “May God comfort us all during this difficult time. Lala ngokuthula Qhawekazi!”
Senator David Coltart also expressed his sadness over Mrs. Zodwa Dabengwa’s passing. He remembered her as a gracious lady and a dignified patriot who stood by her husband throughout their struggles to bring democracy to Zimbabwe. Senator Coltart admired her great integrity and extended his wishes for her soul to rest in peace.
The Dumiso Dabengwa Foundation, dedicated to continuing the late hero’s legacy, also sent out a tweet honoring Mrs. Zodwa Dabengwa. They praised her as a great mother who stood with Dr. Dabengwa through trials and tribulations. The foundation shared images from the High Court of Zimbabwe, capturing the moment when Dr. Dabengwa was released from prison. They mourned the loss of a true “Imbokodo” (a strong woman) and bid her farewell with the words “Hamba Kuhle, maKhumalo” (Go well, Khumalo).
As of now, funeral arrangements for Mrs. Dabengwa are yet to be announced, and the public awaits further updates in this regard.
