Political commentary cannot ignore how the CCC leadership has guarded against temptations & traps that would’ve left the party too internally focused.
For all intent & purposes, the party has done exceedingly well in keeping all eyes on ZanuPF, and winning the 2023 election.
There was so much pressure, including from ZanuPF itself, weird enough, for CCC to focus on internal leadership contestation, or put differently, “party formalization”.
In other spaces, the debate is labeled “forming structures”, allegedly, for effective party operations.
Yet we already know, that, an “orderly CCC”, wouldn’t be desirable for all its political opponents.
They are better off having the party disorganized, malfunctioning, poorly resourced, bickering, and suffering from all the consequences of not being ‘formally structured’.
If anything, the uneasiness of CCC’s political opponents, regarding how it is operating, are only but an admission of dissatisfaction
If indeed there were concerns, the opponents would be better off stoking more fire
Sadly for them, CCC has effectively managed its operations.
Perhaps equally due to a postponed internal focus, CCC has done commendably well, to push the Register To Vote campaign.
In fact, many of the “leaders” or “big fish”, in the orthodox sense, have remained on the campaign trail focusing on party marketing & voter registration.
Political commentary equally cannot ignore the seemingly deliberate rise of young leaders in CCC, particularly females.
The democratization project shouldn’t just be “inter-generational”, whilst conviniently relegating the young generation to mere cheerleaders.
Political commentary equally cannot ignore the commendable focus on voter registration, particularly in response to the ZEC blitz.
On SM, in the streets, in communities, visuals are showing CCC leaders & officials toiling the ground, pushing for virgin voters registration.
There’s an educated view, that the so called “safe opposition seats”, are not doing enough to widen the gap between the opposition and ZanuPF.
To this end its commendable to see CCC guarding against complacency & aiming to actually increase votes, where wins are almost guaranteed.
I’ve also taken notice of REAP (Register Elect and Protect)
Was admittedly surprised running into some REAP campaign youths in my own community, after weeks of fearing that some areas were being ignored.
It’s difficult to debate that there’s no systematic approach to how CCC intends to garner votes.
The Mgwazo campaign also deserves recognition.
Admittedly, rural political activities do not require to be exposed with too much media, for the sake of protecting the participants, particularly those holding leadership positions.
Individuals like Mutsa’s efforts must be applauded.
But ofcourse, political commentary also can’t ignore that appearance & promises aside, the proof is in the pudding.
Voter registration stats (which ZEC is now quite silent about), will need to justify these optics.
Also, the handling of candidate selection will be key.
While at it, I must register my reservation with the idea of Adv Chamisa signing all +2000 candidates forms
It will be an administrative headache
Politically, it presents him as if he’s handpicking all candidates
But ofcourse, I’m willing to be convinced otherwise
