That premature response shows a regime struggling to deal with a scandal.
ZanuPF propaganda works best whenever they can deligitimize the messenger, whilst ignoring the message.
For many years, the sanctions debate in Zimbabwe has hovered around whether or not they are target, and if so, targeted at who!
ZanuPF has always preferred that “there are sanctions on Zimbabwe ..”, essentially crippling the Zimbabwean economy, & consequently gov’s ability to service its plans.
Enter RBZ Governor who then claims that Zimbabwean imports & exports aren’t affected by any sanctions, including the operations of the central bank.
This causes irreparable damage on the mantra that govt is being crippled by sanctions.
Infact, it exposes the whole charade.
Had opted to not comment much on #goldgate scandal, atleast until the whole document comes out.
Perhaps the Harare regime should’ve done the same (it’s naivety to think Mangudya acted alone without the express consent of ED).
My interest here is on the propaganda gone wrong.
To begin with, ZanuPF is struggling to use the usual ‘western sponsored regime change agenda’ narrative against Al Jazeera
Had it been the usual suspects, the CNNs of this world, ZanuPF would’ve had a field day, deligitimizing the messenger, whilst ignoring the message itself.
Instead, the Al Jazeera Media Network (AJMN) is a Qatari international state-owned public media conglomerate headquartered at Qatar Radio and Television Corporation Complex in Wadi Al Sail, Doha
You would also remember that Harare has been economically “looking East” for ages.
Thirdly, ZanuPF has historically used “race” to deligitimize any criticism.
Any European criticism towards ZanuPF is linked to the West’s ‘capture & funding of the opposition.
Interestingly, in this gold gate scandal, a white Ewan MacMillian, alleges a capture of ZanuPF itself.It’s certainly unfamiliar territory, where it’s ZanuPF being exposed as being captured, being a front for white monopoly capital.
A ‘powerful’ white benefactor labels the otherwise feared ex-General Chiwenga a “dunderhead”, without consequence.
It’s politically scandalous.
What became known as the Gupta gate or State Capture scandal in SA, which then toppled President Zuma, started off pretty much the same way.
The Gupta family exposed their own capture of the South Africa’s government, same way Ewan MacMillan is recorded alleging to have captured “90% of the gov”.
It’s easy to see that there’s a lot of mineral related crime happening in Zimbabwe.
The “mbinga” phenomenon in ZanuPF, has its roots in minerals.
The Rushwayas, Prophet Angel & Passion Javas, who are always flying in & out of the country are potential runners for these syndicates.
In fact, it’s a fourth issue on it’s own, in terms of the difficulty in using the “deligitimization tool” to spin this scandal, that some of those implicated have been legitimized as state operatives by the Harare regime
Case in point being Prophet Angel, a Zimbabwean ambassador.
The political & economic consequences of this scandal are far-reaching
I’m totally convinced that there’s concerted effort from ZanuPF to use political pressure to ensure that the actual documentary never airs.
Whether or not they will be successful, only time shall tell.
For now here’s what we know:
i. Sanctions aren’t affecting our economy
ii. Zanu is a project, captured by white capital monopoly
iii. ZanuPF is a threat to our sovereignity & mineral wealth
iv. anti-sanctions campaigners are being used
v. criminals are surrounding the president.
The yet to be exposed full extent of institutionalized criminality, is the sole reason why ZanuPF won’t relinquish power.
Nothing to do with preservation of our sovereignity!
