On December 22, 2025, Councillor Wilstaff Sitemere, representing Ward 6 in Masvingo City, and his wife generously provided food hampers to 30 underprivileged individuals, including people with disabilities, in their community. This initiative reflects their commitment to supporting those in need, especially during the festive season.
Councillor Sitemere shared, “My wife and I used our personal savings to buy these food hampers. We wanted to reach out to the less privileged and assist those with disabilities in Ward 6.” The recipients of these hampers included child-headed families, single parents, and elderly residents who often face severe challenges in their daily lives.
Each food hamper contained essential items designed to ease the burdens faced by these families. The hampers included:
– 2 kg of sugar
– 2 kg of flour
– 2 kg of washing powder
– Packets of spaghetti
– 2 liters of cooking oil
– 2 liters of Mazoe beverage
– Bathing soap
– Colgate
The distribution took place at Masvingo Brigade, but due to heavy rains affecting travel in the area, some beneficiaries were unable to attend. Understanding the difficulties faced by those in his community, Councillor Sitemere and his wife took the initiative to drive through Ward 6, personally delivering hampers to individuals who were confined to wheelchairs or unable to travel.
The community has expressed immense gratitude for the councillor Sitemere’s empathetic actions. Residents noted that such gestures of kindness provide not only essential supplies but also hope and encouragement during challenging times.
In an interview with Change Radio, Councillor Sitemere expressed his aspirations for the future, stating, “If God grants me life and resources in 2026, I hope to expand this initiative and provide hampers to 100 marginalized residents in Ward 6.”
The need for such support is more critical than ever. Zimbabwe, under the Zanu PF government, is grappling with high unemployment rates, escalating poverty levels, and increasing costs of education and healthcare. Consequently, many disadvantaged citizens now rely heavily on the goodwill of individuals like Councillor Sitemere, who step up to alleviate some of the hardships faced by their communities.
Councillor Sitemere’s efforts not only provide immediate relief but also serve as a call to action for other community leaders and citizens to contribute to the welfare of those in need. Such initiatives can foster a spirit of solidarity and compassion, reminding us all of the importance of looking after one another, especially during tough times.
