Thousands of Pro-Chamisa Supporters and Family Give Bulawayo Ward 2 Councillor Joyce Ndlovu a Heroine’s Farewell

In a poignant demonstration of love and respect, thousands gathered today at McDonald Hall in Mzilikazi to bid farewell to councillor Joyce Ndlovu, the late councillor for Bulawayo Ward 2. Her untimely passing on January 9, 2024, marked the end of a remarkable chapter in local governance, leaving a void in the hearts of her family, supporters, and the broader community.

Councillor Ndlovu was not just a councillor; she was a fearless advocate, a staunch supporter of President Nelson Chamisa, and a beacon of hope for many in her community. Her tenure from 2018 to 2023 was characterized by unwavering commitment to fighting corruption, the needs and rights of her constituents. Councillor Ndlovu’s legacy is one of resilience and determination, qualities that shone brightly during her time in office.

 

The atmosphere at the funeral was heavy with emotion as speakers took turns to honor her memory. Hon. Gift Ostallos Siziba delivered a heartfelt tribute, stating, “Today, we gathered in Bulawayo to bid a final farewell to the remarkable Joyce Ndlovu, a former Ward 2 councillor who sadly passed away last week after a brave battle with illness. Joyce was a true servant of the people, dedicating her life to the betterment of our community and city. Her tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Bulawayo’s residents have left an indelible mark on our city.”

 

Hon. Siziba’s words resonated deeply, as he went on to highlight Ndlovu’s role as a vocal advocate who consistently prioritized her constituents’ needs over her own. “We salute every citizen and democratic activist who has come together to give councillor Ndlovu a fitting sendoff. This is who we are; we stand together shoulder to shoulder until victory. Rest in power, sis Joyce Ndlovu,” he concluded, evoking a wave of applause and tears from the audience.

 

Hon. Bekezela Mapulanga echoed these sentiments, describing councillor Ndlovu as “a true cadre, fearless and straightforward,” who served Ward 2 with distinction. “She was very approachable and had an agenda to develop Ward 2, in line with the vision of President Nelson Chamisa. May her soul rest in peace,” she added, a sentiment that encapsulated the collective grief felt by those present.

The funeral was not just a farewell; it was a testament to councillor Ndlovu’s influence and the respect she commanded. Attendees included family members, church congregants, and community members, with notable figures traveling from as far as Harare. Among them were Honourable Senator Vongai Tome, Hon. Linnet Mazingaizo from Gweru Urban, and Honourable Amos Chibaya, all of whom shared their memories and paid tribute to the late councillor.

 

Hon. Chibaya described councillor Ndlovu as “hardworking and a true servant of the citizens in Ward 2 and beyond.” He expressed that her death was not only a loss for her family but for Zimbabwe at large, emphasizing the impact she had in her community and beyond.

 

Councillor Ndlovu’s family also took the stage to share their memories, portraying her as a loving mother, a pillar of strength, and a unifying force within their household. They recounted her dedication to her family and her unwavering support for their dreams, further highlighting the profound loss felt by those who knew her best.

 

Current pro-Chamisa Bulawayo Councillors, members of parliament, and even those who had been recalled by Zanu PF proxy Sengezo Tshabangu were present at the funeral, reflecting the vast network of influence councillor Ndlovu had cultivated during her life. Her passing was a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of community, leaving a legacy that will inspire future generations of leaders and activists.
