Gutu South Citizens Coalition for Change [CCC], Ward 27’s current sitting councillor, Mr. Jeffrey Tangemhare, along with five other CCC members, sought refuge in the mountains after an attack by members of Zanu-PF and Forever Associates of Zimbabwe [FAZ] tonight.
The names of the five other CCC members currently in hiding, along with Councillor Tangemhare, cannot be disclosed to protect their identities, in fear of potential beatings or even fatalities at the hands of Zanu-PF members.
The six CCC were assaulted by Zanu-PF and FAZ members while they were departing from a training workshop conducted by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission [ZEC] at Maungwa Business Centre.
Councillor Tangemhare, speaking from their concealed location, said, “Zanu-PF and FAZ members attacked us tonight as we were returning home from a ZEC elections agents training workshop at Maungwa Business Centre in here Gutu South.”
Zanu PF and FAZ members who are attacking six CCC members are being led by Stephen Muwunde.
Currently, these six CCC members are taking refuge in the mountains due to their fears of being subjected to beatings or even killed by violent Zanu PF and FAZ members.
There exists an urgent necessity to rescue these six CCC members, who are currently under siege by Zanu PF and FAZ.
Gutu South has been turned into a war zone by Zanu PF members, sponsored by Gutu South’s Zanu-PF member of parliament, Pupurai Togarepi.
As the 2023 harmonized elections draw nearer, reported incidents of ZANU PF violence against CCC members have significantly escalated.
The police at Maungwa Business Centre have yet to apprehend the Zanu-PF members responsible for assaulting CCC members.
