“38 Nyatsime CCC activists granted bail The 38 Nyatsime CCC supporters who were arrested on 10 June 2023 & accused of public violence have been granted US$60 bail each by the Chitungwiza Magistrates Court. They will report to Chitungwiza Police Station once a month.” The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum reported.
ZanuPF’s abuse of the justice system and police force to suppress opposing voices undermines the fundamental principles of justice, fairness, and democracy. It creates an environment of fear and intimidation, where citizens are hesitant to express their opinions or engage in political activities for fear of retribution.
A robust and independent justice system is the cornerstone of any functioning democracy. However, when the ruling party manipulates the system to stifle dissent, it erodes public trust and undermines the very foundation upon which a just society is built.
ZanuPF must be held accountable for its actions and should be condemned for using the justice system and the police as tools of oppression rather than protectors of justice. The international community must also be vigilant in condemning these actions and exert pressure on ZanuPF to respect human rights and uphold the rule of law.
It is crucial to support and amplify the voices of those who are being silenced, ensuring that their struggle for freedom of expression is not in vain. Only by holding ZanuPF accountable can we hope to foster a society where diverse opinions are valued, and the rights of all citizens are protected.
