Citizens residing in rural areas of Zimbabwe are increasingly expressing their discontent with the leadership of Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling ZANU PF government. Amidst this growing dissatisfaction, the opposition CCC party has seen a surge in support, particularly in Matabeleland South province.
Nonhlanhla Mlotshwa, an official of the CCC party, shed light on the prevailing sentiment among villagers, who have begun ignoring or outright refusing to attend ZANU PF gatherings and meetings. This unprecedented behavior showcases a profound loss of faith in the ruling party. Notably, regions such as Matobo, Insiza, Mangwe, and Bulilima have witnessed villagers openly voicing their support for the CCC and its leader, President Nelson Chamisa. Mlotshwa hopes that this trend will soon encompass the entirety of Zimbabwe, igniting a nationwide shift in political allegiance.
The decline in ZANU PF’s popularity can be traced back to Mnangagwa’s assumption of power in 2017 following the ousting of long-time ruler Robert Mugabe.
