Highlanders Football Club has maintained its stance on the appointment of a new head coach, refusing to be swayed by external influences. The club’s position was made clear in a press statement, emphasizing that established processes and procedures will be followed in selecting the next head coach.
The statement came in response to a proposal by benefactor Wicknell Chivhayo to facilitate the appointment of Benjani Mwaruwari as the new head coach. While appreciative of the gesture, Highlanders reiterated that the club is already in the process of identifying a suitable candidate.
“We recognize the gesture by our benefactor, but we must adhere to our procedures,” the club said. “The process of finalizing a potential candidate is underway, and we will share developments with the Highlanders FC family once concluded.”
Highlanders thanked Chivhayo for his continued support, adding that they look forward to his ongoing involvement with the club.
The club’s decision comes amidst speculation about Mwaruwari’s potential appointment, following a meeting with Chivhayo. Mwaruwari previously had a coaching stint at Ngezi Platinum, which ended mid-season.
Meanwhile, other Zimbabwean football clubs have made their own coaching appointments, with Scotland FC naming Norman Mapeza as head coach and Caps United appointing Takesure Chiragwi. Unconfirmed reports suggest Joel Luphala may join FC Platinum, and Kelvin Kaindu could succeed him at Simba Bhora.
