In a commendable act of gratitude, Masvingo City Mayor and Ward 4 Councillor Alec Tabe recently distributed food hampers to 42 dedicated polling station agents and other supporters from Ward 4 who significantly contributed to the 2023 harmonized elections. This event also coincided with Mayor Tabe’s birthday celebrations, as he marked his 42nd year in August.

Each recipient received a generous package containing 10 kg of mealie meal, 2 liters of cooking oil, 2 kg of sugar, 2 kg of flour, 2 kg of rice, and tea bags. The total expenditure for these hampers amounted to $700, procured from N. Richards Shop in Masvingo.

During the ceremony, Masvingo City Proportional Representative Councillor Esther Zishiri, who also represents Ward 4, highlighted the importance of acknowledging the contributions of local residents. “Ward 4 residents deserve to be appreciated for their unwavering support in voting for Councillor Tabe during the 2022 by-elections and the 2023 harmonized elections,” she stated passionately.

Councillor Tabe achieved remarkable victories in both the 2022 and 2023 elections, defeating Zanu-PF candidates under the leadership of the esteemed President Nelson Chamisa. His triumphs reflect the strong support he enjoys within the community.

Local resident Ms. Lee Mahachi expressed her gratitude, saying, “We greatly appreciate Mayor Tabe for these food hampers. This gesture demonstrates how much Councillor Tabe values our efforts in campaigning and voting for him and President Nelson Chamisa.”

Ward 4 played a pivotal role in galvanizing votes for President Chamisa in 2023, significantly contributing to his electoral success.

In his concluding remarks, Mayor Tabe expressed heartfelt appreciation for the hard work of the polling agents and foot soldiers, stating, “I want to extend my gratitude to the remarkable foot soldiers of Ward 4 who safeguarded the votes for President Chamisa and our councillor during the 2023 harmonized elections.”

Notably, Mayor Tabe is the first 2023 Masvingo City Councillor to provide food hampers to his polling agents and supporters, marking a significant milestone in community engagement. He emphasized that this initiative represents only the first phase of his commitment to giving back to the dedicated individuals who supported him and the party.

The occasion was further honored by the presence of esteemed guests, including Mr. Struggle Desire Nyahunda, Councillor Esther Zishiri, and Hon. Pedzisai Gava, who joined in celebrating the spirit of community and solidarity.
