Councillor Rocky Kamuzonda from Masvingo West ward 2 and Councillor Selina Maridza from Masvingo urban ward 1 were not chosen by their party to be its representatives in the upcoming harmonized elections.
However, they have embraced the party’s decision to endorse Shantel Chiwara, an aspiring councillor from Masvingo West ward 2, and Mrs. Chikwangwani, who will represent Masvingo urban ward 1, as the party’s candidates.
Councillor Maridza said, “I am happy to be the campaign manager for Mrs. Chikwangwani, who is our candidate in ward 1. We are working as a team to win this ward and contribute to the member of parliament and presidential vote.”
On the other hand, Councillor Rocky Kamuzonda said, “Yes, I will be part of Shantel Chiwara’s campaign team. I will be leading from the front as we aim to win ward 2.”
Godfre Kuraone, a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change based in America, facilitated the negotiations that led to Councillor Kamuzonda and Councillor Maridza working with the party candidates.
Ms. Shantel Chiwara expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am humbled by the tremendous support from Councillor Rocky Kamuzonda. His support is greatly appreciated.” In the spirit of unity, all CCC candidates, whether selected or not, are encouraged to work together to win wards and constituencies.
In 2013, the MDC under President Tsvangirai in Masvingo urban lost Ward 1 and Ward 2. Similarly, in 2018, the MDC Alliance in Masvingo urban lost Ward 6 due to disunity. The CCC cannot afford to lose urban wards.
