To promote peace and fairness in the upcoming August elections, the President of the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC), Nelson Chamisa, today held a meeting with a group of important religious leaders from the All-Africa Conference of Churches (AACC). Their visit aimed to support Zimbabwe and highlight the crucial role of the church in the elections.
The group, made up of eight respected individuals, visited Zimbabwe to show their support before the important August elections. They included Archbishop Martin Blaise Nyaboho from Burundi, Archbishop Maimbo Mndolwa from Tanzania, Dr. Gloria Somolekae from Botswana, Father James Oyet Latansio from South Sudan, Ruth Mhone from Malawi, Rev. Pataki Mautji from South Africa, Moderator Rt. Rev. Dr. Bliss Divine Kofi Agbeko from Ghana, and Rev. Charles Berahino from the AACC Secretariat in Nairobi. Representatives from the Zimbabwe Council of Churches were also there.
President Chamisa warmly welcomed the group and shared his thoughts on Zimbabwe’s current situation leading up to the elections. They talked about what the CCC plans to do and the important role of the church in society.
They mainly discussed the need for peaceful elections. President Chamisa and the AACC group both called for unity among Zimbabweans during this important time. They emphasized the importance of conducting the elections in a peaceful and open way, giving everyone a fair chance to exercise their right to vote. The group showed their support and solidarity, wanting to promote democracy, human rights, and good governance in Zimbabwe.
President Chamisa thanked the AACC group for their support and stressed the importance of international support for Zimbabwe’s democracy. He recognized the church’s important role in advocating for positive change and emphasized the need for ongoing communication and working together.
The meeting ended with a commitment from both sides to continue working together. They want to strengthen collaboration between the CCC and the AACC to address challenges in Zimbabwe and create a better future. The meeting showed that President Chamisa and the AACC group share a commitment to peaceful, fair, and trustworthy elections in Zimbabwe.
