The Chirumanzu South Constituency, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) aspiring candidate Mr Patrick Cheza who got arrested yesterday in Chirumanzu has been transferred to Gweru this evening.
Masvingo based human rights lawyer Advocate Martin Mureri is representing Mr Cheza.
Advocate Mureri has accompanied him (Mr Cheza) to Gweru tonight.
Advocate Mureri was in Chirumanzu since yesterday assisting Mr Cheza.
It has been alleged that he assaulted Zanu PF and FAZ members, robbed them their $50us and phone porch.
Advocate Mureri said, “My client Mr Cheza is denying the allegations leveled against him. Yes, we are now in Gweru with Mr Cheza he was transferred to Gweru under police guard.”
Mr Cheza will sleep in filthy and cold Gweru police cells for flimsy allegations which are baseless and unsubstantiated.
The trend of arresting CCC aspiring candidates has become a deliberate ploy to decimate the members of legitimate opposition party.
He will appear in court tomorrow at Gweru magistrate court, (3rd June 2023).
Mr Cheza is Chirumanzu South’s aspiring CCC member of parliament for the forthcoming harmonised elections held to be held on 23 August 2023.
He has done several community development projects and philanthropic work such as drilling boreholes, bridges and paying paying fees of underprivileged learners from marginal families or ophaned children.
He is a successful business person.
CCC national Organising Champion Amos Chibaya said, “We are worried about the arrest of Mr Cheza and all CCC members across the country. We encourage our members to be strong in these difficult times.”
