As the August 23 Elections approach, it is becoming evident that the ZANU PF party is intensifying its tactics of intimidation and violence against citizens. In light of this alarming situation, we urge citizens to adopt a strategy known as the “mango strategy,” which was eloquently proposed by President Nelson Chamisa of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Party. This strategy involves blending in and pretending to support the ZANU PF party in order to access essential food aid and avoid becoming victims of political violence. However, it is important to emphasize that this strategy is intended solely for the purpose of ensuring personal safety and well-being.
On the day of the elections, it is crucial for citizens to exercise their democratic rights and cast their votes for the CCC party. While utilizing the mango strategy can help individuals access vital resources and stay safe in the face of intimidation, the ultimate goal remains to elect representatives who truly embody the ideals and aspirations of the citizens.
We must acknowledge that resorting to such tactics underscores the challenges faced by the people in exercising their fundamental rights freely and without fear. The escalation of intimidation and violence by the ZANU PF party is a concerning trend that undermines the principles of democracy and compromises the integrity of the electoral process.
It is vital that the international community remains vigilant and closely monitors the situation to ensure that the electoral process is conducted fairly, transparently, and without any form of coercion. By standing together, citizens, civil society organizations, and international observers can contribute to fostering an environment where citizens can freely express their will through the ballot box.
