In a highly anticipated press conference held today, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) conveyed its concerns and outlined a series of urgent actions required as Zimbabwe approaches the upcoming elections. Led by Ellen Shiriyedenga, a prominent member of the CCC’s election taskforce Committee, the party shed light on four pivotal issues that demand immediate attention.
The first and foremost concern raised by CCC is the release and physical accessibility of the National Voters Roll. Emphasizing the importance of transparency and fairness, the party urged the responsible authorities in the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), to make the Voters Roll available to the party and other interested organizations before the election proclamation date. By ensuring access to the Voters Roll, CCC aims to facilitate thorough verification and correction of any potential irregularities or discrepancies, thereby safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
Secondly CCC encouraged unregistered citizens to participate in the democratic process. The organization called upon eligible but unregistered individuals to seize the opportunity to register before the closure of the Voters Roll for the 2023 Elections. By extending this plea, CCC aims to foster inclusivity and allow every eligible citizen to exercise their democratic right to vote, ensuring a more representative and diverse electorate.
Thirdly, CCC stressed the importance of registered citizens’ active engagement in the Voters Roll Inspection process. Commencing tomorrow and continuing until the 31st of May, this process allows registered voters to review their information and verify its accuracy. To facilitate this, copies of the Voters Roll will be made available at all polling stations throughout Zimbabwe. CCC encouraged citizens to participate in this crucial exercise to ensure their details are correctly recorded, rectifying any errors or omissions that could potentially hinder their ability to cast their votes.
Fourthly, CCC reiterated its longstanding demand for electoral and administrative reforms to be implemented by the ZEC. These reforms aim to enhance the transparency, fairness, and overall integrity of the electoral process. By addressing concerns related to the electoral framework, voter registration, and administrative procedures, CCC strives to foster a more credible and inclusive electoral system. Through these reforms, the organization aims to uphold democratic principles, ensure equal participation, and build public confidence in the electoral outcomes.
