In a concerning turn of events, ZANU PF party members have allegedly been involved in the eviction of tenants who openly support the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) from business premises in Gutu, Masvingo Province. Additionally, reports suggest that these individuals are also subjecting CCC members to abuse and harassment if they attempt to make purchases within the affected business centers at Mushayavanhu and Mvimvi.

One prominent figure implicated in these alleged actions is Lovemore Matuke, the Secretary for Security in the Politburo of ZANU PF. When contacted for comment on the matter, Matuke dismissed the claims, brushing them off as baseless and even labeling the reporter’s inquiries as “stupid.”

Confirming the incident, Lilian Muradzikwa Zvichemo, a member of ZANU PF, admitted to serving a suspected CCC tenant with an eviction notice at her shop located in Mushayavanhu. These revelations have sparked concerns over the abuse of power and disregard for the democratic rights of individuals who support alternative political parties.

The actions taken by ZANU PF officials have drawn criticism from various quarters, further tarnishing the party’s reputation and diminishing its popularity in the region. The reported eviction of tenants based on their political affiliations undermines the principles of fairness and freedom of expression, which are crucial pillars of a democratic society.

Such acts of discrimination and intimidation have the potential to stifle political discourse and inhibit the growth of a healthy multiparty system. The allegations raise questions about the ruling party’s commitment to upholding democratic values and protecting the rights of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.

The incident in Gutu serves as a stark reminder that political tensions and the abuse of power can erode the democratic fabric of a nation, potentially fueling further divisions among the population. It is imperative that such actions are thoroughly investigated and appropriate measures are taken to ensure justice and accountability.

As this controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how ZANU PF will respond to these allegations and address the concerns of both local and international observers. The outcome of this situation will undoubtedly have implications for the party’s reputation and standing, as well as the overall political landscape in Masvingo Province
