The Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Alliance Director Mr Anoziva Mugutu’s life is under threat.
Yesternight, unknown assailants threatened to kill him before harmonized elections, accusing him of being a CCC supporter
Speaking from safe place Mr Muguti said, “l was at Rhodene Shopping centre and six people came to where l was with a Nissan Sunny vehicle without number plates and threatened me with death.”
He further said, “The assailants said l am supporting Citizens Coalition for Change party in Masvingo.”
However, this is not true, Masvingo Residents and Ratepayers Alliance is apolitical. It represents and advocates for residents’ rights, said Mr Muguti.
After threatening Mr Muguti, the assailants went and parked their car near Mr Muguti’s house.
Mr Muguti’s friend (who refused to be named for security reasons), said “l witness the assailants threatening Mr Muguti with death. The two members of the gang that threatened Mr Muguti are well known Masvingo urban ward 9 residents.”
One of the MURRA’s board member Mr Thomas Mbetu castigated the assailants who threatened Mr Muguti.
Mr Mbetu said, “It is sad and unfortunate that such elements (assailants) want to silence a residents movement that has helped , and that is helping residents in terms of citizens engagement and demanding service delivery from duty bearers. These elements who ever they are should be condemned in the strongest terms. We can not have such barbaric behavior in this 20 first century, and in a morden democracy. This is wrong and must be stoped henceforth. The contest should be about ideas, not threats and intimidation”.
MURRA is the biggest and most vocal residents association in Masvingo.
In Masvingo, Zanu PF has a record of intimidating opposition members and NGOs.
There will be intense intimidation of opposition supporters by Zanu PF members as harmonized elections draw near.
