Today, Zanu-PF Masvingo City Ward 6 councillor Wellington Mahwende has just been declared 2023 Masvingo urban member of parliament by his faction. The meeting that declares Mahwende as parliamentary candidate is currently being held at Chief Halls in Masvingo urban. Mahwende is in Chadzamira’s faction. He will battle it out with Mazarire and other aspiring candidates. Mazarire contested as Zanu PF member of parliament in 2018 and was beaten by honourable Jacob Nyokanhete of President Chamisa’s party.
Now, the battles lines have been drawn in Zanu PF as primary elections draw near. Score of Zanu PF members are at Chief Halls wearing party regalia singing revolutionary songs.Chaos as some Zanu PF party members are singing revolutionary songs in support of Mazarire at Chiefs Hall where Mahwende is holding his campaign. Mahwende faction is currently giving food hampers to Zanu PF members at Chief Hall this afternoon.
Masvingo urban is Citizens Coalition for Change territory. Currently the opposition party has 7 council seats and Zanu PF has 3 council seats. In addition, the member of parliament of Masvingo urban honourable Jacob Nyokanhete is of CCC party.
