The evictions, slated to take effect on May 31, 2023, following a contentious three-week notice period, have been widely condemned as a flagrant violation of the law.
The atmosphere at the gathering was filled with a sense of defiance and resilience as CCC supporters, undeterred by the unjust actions taken against their comrades, sang, danced, and organized a lively braai event to symbolize their unwavering support. Demonstrating the strength of their unity, attendees contributed funds to assist the affected members in their search for alternative premises, displaying a true spirit of compassion and solidarity.
Among those responsible for the evictions were prominent Zanu PF figures, including Lovemore Matuke, the party’s secretary for security, and Lillian Muradzikwa Zvichemo. The actions taken by these individuals have drawn widespread criticism for their blatant disregard for the rule of law and the rights of CCC members. Furthermore, Zanu PF youth members issued an order to local villagers, instructing them to boycott the shops owned by CCC supporters, further exacerbating tensions in the community.
