Residents of Epworth North are rallying behind their MP, Hon. Zivai Mhetu, as he pushes for the issuance of title deeds and the establishment of an extra police station in the area, following interviews conducted today. Only a few hundred residents out of approximately 23,000 have managed to secure title deeds, with Hon. Mhetu and residents concerned about the red tape and procrastination hindering the process.
“The title deed is an empowerment tool that will change our lives,” said Mrs. Fungisai Mapako, a resident of Epworth. Mhetu’s efforts have also focused on establishing an extra police station in the area to reduce congestion and long distances to the existing station in Epworth South.
Yesterday, Hon. Mhetu handed over school fees receipts to four Muguta Secondary School students, sourced from the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhong Ding. He also provided additional stationery to the school, echoing the slogan “Dzidzo Inhaka” with students and staff.
During Monday’s interviews, residents welcomed Hon. Mhetu’s efforts to upgrade Mabvazuva Clinic to offer 24/7 hospital services, reducing medical costs and travel expenses. They also applauded Hon. Mhetu’s development projects in Epworth North, including road rehabilitation and electrification of schools.
These developments follow Hon. Mhetu’s highly successful Ward 1, Ward 6 and Ward 7 consultation and feedback meetings held last Saturday, which were attended by thousands of people. However, some residents expressed frustration with the slow process of issuing title deeds. “We were told this would change our lives, give us real ownership of our homes. Now it feels like we’ve been duped,” said an anonymous Epworth resident.
Hon. Mhetu’s tireless efforts have been allegedly met with attempts by Zanu PF’s Taurai Kandishaya, who lost the 2023 Parliamentary race to Mhetu, to distract him, with residents questioning the relevance of such issues soon after Hon. Mhetu’s successful consultation meetings which were attended by thousands of residents. Residents also applauded Hon. Mhetu for ignoring such irrelevant issues, and continuing with progress on matters that affect their livelihoods.
