In a concerning development, pro-Chamisa lieutenants in Masvingo province have been urged to exercise heightened security consciousness. The are many reports across Zimbabwe from areas such as Kariba, Harare and Bulawayo were pro-Chamisa lieutenants have been arrested on trump up changes such as Organizing demonstrations during South Africa Development Committee (SADC) summit to be held in Harare on 17th August 2024, where Zanu PF president Emmerson Mnangagwa will be made SADC chairperson
According to Honourable Martin Mureri, Masvingo urban member of parliament and top human rights lawyer,
“I have received reports that certain unknown individuals are sending messages to pro-Chamisa lieutenants, inquiring about plans for potential demonstrations in Masvingo, similar to those recently observed in Bulawayo”.
The award winning human rights lawyer Advocate Mureri warned pro-Chamisa lieutenants against responding to such queries, particularly those received over the phone, as there are reports of instances where pro-Chamisa lieutenants had their phones confiscated by unknown persons. These unknown persons have then used the phones to send messages, posing as the legitimate owners.
Furthermore, honourable Mureri said some pro-Chamisa lieutenants, particularly in Masvingo Urban, Masvingo West, and Chiredzi, have been visited at their homes by individuals driving cars without registration numbers. This development has understandably raised security concerns among the pro-Chamisa supporters in Masvingo.
In light of these concerning incidents, honourable Mureri advises pro-Chamisa lieutenants to exercise extreme caution. He recommends that they refrain from responding to any sensitive messages, and instead, consider verifying the authenticity of the sender by directly contacting the sender and listening to their voice. This approach, honourable Mureri said , could help distinguish genuine communications from potentially nefarious attempts to gather information or arrest pro-Chamisa lieutenants.
The situation in Masvingo appears to be rapidly evolving, and the pro-Chamisa lieutenants are urged to remain vigilant and prioritize their personal safety. Honourable Mureri’s views serve as timely warning, underscoring the need for pro-Chamisa supporters to be proactive in safeguarding their security.
As the political landscape in Zimbabwe continues to be contentious, it is crucial that pro-Chamisa lieutenants, maintain a heightened sense of awareness and take appropriate measures to protect themselves.
What is intriguing the most is that, social media is rife with parody and ghost accounts bend on spreading fake information purporting to be coming from known opposition members. This is a regime antic aimed at creating a fallacy and situation to clamp down the residents. In a mature democracy, the governments do not gear it’s citizens or to see inexistent Shadows all in the name of stranglehold on power.
Hon Mureri further reiterates that there is no reason for the regime to be hunting the citizens who are just going by their day to day errands in anticipation that they might commit crimes. If people are arrested because of crimes or actions of crimes committed in the minds of state security then the world of logic would have ceased to exist. The targeted clamp down is all but a failed and choreographed manouvre to push the residents on the edge of a cliff or to retaliate hence the opposition members in Masvingo mist remain vigilant
