Former independent Member of Parliament for Norton, Hon. Temba Mliswa, posed for a photo yesterday with several men and women who reside in Norton where he presided over as a member of parliament from 2016 to 2023.

Mliswa then wrote that he was assessing the state of the toilets he built for the constituency in the past five years.

The Blair toilet seen in the picture is the most common type of toilet in Zimbabwe.

What makes it even more concerning is that the country is rich in minerals like lithium, gold, and diamonds, but the economy is in a bad state, underdeveloped, and with more than 50% of the population living below the poverty datum line.

At the same time, those who are in power are living admirably above-average lifestyles.

In her article, yesterday, Fadzayi Mahere said ” Zimbabwe is reported to hold the largest lithium deposits in Africa and the fifth-largest in the world. The country is also home to the world’s third-largest platinum deposits, along with large deposits of other high-value mineral resources like gold, chrome, coal and diamonds.”

But those who have access to these natural resources are bragging about building blair toilets and drilling boreholes in towns.

“I passed through Ngoni Market in Norton to assess the state of the toilet project which I have been funding there. It’s great that it has been completed and in due time we shall officially commission it for public usage with the current political leadership present.

Under normal circumstances Council should be providing such facilities as people pay rates for it to build such facilities. However, since there is a need for water we shall also seek for the support of the new political leaders such as MP Tsvangirai to support with a borehole.

I always say that one doesn’t have to be a political leader to make a difference in the community. As TPM Foundation we shall continue pursuing and fulfilling all community projects as our mandate dictates.”
