“CCC aspiring councilor for Ward 6, Bindura North, Cllr Oliver Mukombwe, was brutally assaulted by four Zanupf thugs led by Regis Mondoka, a well-known Zanupf activist in Bindura. They attacked him with bottles and stones at around 22:30 on Tuesday, July 18.
This happened at Manyopora Nite Club. An eyewitness said, ‘They attacked him with bottles and kicked him when he fell down.’
In a phone call conversation with the victim, Cllr Mukombwe said that he endured several injuries, specifically on the face and the left ribs.
He is also appealing to well-wishers who may help with finances to seek medical attention.
In light of this distressing incident, it is crucial to call for peace and unity as we approach the upcoming 23 August Elections.
Acts of violence, such as the brutal assault on Cllr Oliver Mukombwe, have no place in a democratic society. Every citizen must condemn any actions that perpetrate violence and undermine the democratic process.
The use of force and intimidation to suppress opposing voices is unacceptable, and all political parties, especially Zanupf, should prioritize promoting a peaceful and fair electoral environment.
During this time, citizens are encouraged to come together as a community to reject violence and ensure that our elections are conducted in a spirit of respect, tolerance, and transparency, allowing the citizens’ voice to be heard freely and without fear or favour.
Only through peaceful dialogue and cooperation can we achieve a prosperous and harmonious future for all citizens.
