Yesterday, at around 4 pm, Gutu South Zanu PF members chased Gutu South Citizens Coalition for Change [CCC] aspiring member of parliament, Mr. Hamandishe Gobvu.

The car chasing CCC members belong to Gutu South Zanu PF member of parliament, Pupurai Togarepi.

This car high-speed chase took place on a dusty road in Mukaro.

Before the car chase, CCC members were campaigning in the area. Then Zanu PF members came with weapons intending to injure CCC members.

Commenting on this issue, Mr. Gobvu said, “Zanu-PF members chased us with their car. They wanted to kidnap and beat us, but we managed to escape.”

In addition, Mr. Gobvu said, “We reported the case to the police, but the police here in Gutu refused to accept our report against Zanu PF members, saying the case is highly political.”

This is another case where the police have refused to accept a report from CCC against Gutu South Zanu PF members.

On the 7th of July 2023, before President Chamisa addressed a Gutu rally, Gutu South Zanu PF members belonging to Togarepi abducted, beat, and injured six Gutu CCC members at Maungwa growth point, Gutu South.

The victims were:
– Martin Muremba, aspiring CCC councillor for ward 25 in Gutu South, severely beaten and injured on the head, chest, and back. He lost his $200us and phone.
– Godwin Madhuya from ward 25
– Collen Mawere from ward 25
– Misheck Chikonye from ward 25
– Patrick Madzivanyi from ward 23
– Shumirai Tagu from ward 24

Also, later on the same day [7th July 2023], after President Chamisa addressed thousands of citizens at Maungwa business centre, 16 CCC members were beaten by Zanu PF members while going home.

A total of 22 CCC members were beaten, injured, and displaced by Zanu PF on 7th July 2023. The injured are currently being treated at a private hospital.

The victims of Zanu-PF violence reported the case to the police. However, Mr. Muremba mentioned that the police officials refused to record their statements because the case is “too politically sensitive” as it involves Gutu South member of parliament Togarepi.

The vehicle used to abduct the six CCC members was driven by the son of Gutu South member of parliament, Togarepi.

The following are some of the violent Zanu-PF members who beat and injured CCC members today in Gutu: Norman Mawanga, Evans, and Mbizvo.
