With only 56 days remaining until Zimbabweans cast their votes in the harmonized elections on 23rd August 2023, Zanu PF has intensified its campaign of intimidation against members of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
The latest victim of Zanu PF’s tactics is Karieta Dambuza, a CCC member from Chiredzi North Ward 20, who, along with their family, has been forcibly displaced by Zanu PF members. Fearing for their safety, they are currently seeking refuge in a secure location.
Mrs. Mugidho, a cluster leader within the Mugwazo community, shed light on the situation, stating, “Zanu PF members are resorting to intimidation tactics against CCC members in Chiredzi North. As a result, Karieta Dambuza and their family have been forced into hiding due to threats from Zanu PF, simply because they support President Chamisa.”
Chiredzi North has long been considered a stronghold for Zanu PF, effectively creating a no-go area for opposition parties. Throughout the years, this constituency has consistently delivered the highest number of suspect vote counts in favor of Zanu PF, dating back to the elections held since 1980.
In order to protect both the voters and the integrity of the electoral process, it is imperative for the CCC to deploy well-trained, resilient, and vigilant election agents in Chiredzi and Mwenezi constituencies. The intimidation tactics employed by Zanu PF are deeply concerning, as they undermine the principles of democracy and seek to suppress the voices of opposition parties and their supporters.
