From 3-5 December , 2025, Councillor Bruce Mmeli Moyo, a vibrant opposition leader from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, will address the prestigious Pan African Leadership Forum held in Sandton, Johannesburg. He is notably the only Zimbabwean speaker at this significant event, which aims to empower and inspire thousands of youth from across the continent.
The Pan African Leadership Forum, running from December 3 to 5, 2025, embraces the theme “Meet the Outstanding Leaders, Innovators, and Change-makers.” The event features an impressive lineup of speakers, including Jullie Beya, Princess Zihle Mgiba, Zimkhitha April, Philani Mdakane, and Mohale Ramoshaba, all hailing from South Africa. These speakers will tackle various issues affecting youth, including politics, education, employment, agriculture, and challenges related to unemployment and lack of education.
Councillor Moyo is recognized for his strong advocacy for youth participation in governance. He represents Ward 22 in Nkulumane, Bulawayo, and has established himself as a vocal critic of the ZANU-PF regime. His educational background includes a diploma in Electronic Engineering from Harare Polytechnic and selection as a Mandela Washington Fellow in 2025 at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, where he received training in leadership and public management. In addition to this, he holds certificates in Social and Economic Justice Activism from the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (Zimcodd) and a Sexual and Reproductive Health certificate from YALEP.
Moyo’s political activism began as a student, serving as the Student Representative Council (SRC) President at Harare Polytechnic. He was later elected as a councillor for Ward 22, where he actively engages in local governance and encourages youth to participate in political processes. A prominent pro-democracy advocate, he was arrested in August 2024 on charges deemed politically motivated by his supporters, but he was released on bail after a protracted legal process. In November 2025, Moyo and fellow leaders from Nkulumane endorsed independent candidate Rodney Jele for the vacant National Assembly seat, following the death of the incumbent MP, Desire Moyo.
In addition to his role as a councillor, Moyo directs the Young Leaders Initiative, an organization focused on empowering youth. He continues to be a vocal critic of the ruling ZANU-PF party, accusing the government of persecuting political opponents and advocating for electoral reforms following the disputed 2023 elections.
