Citizens across Zimbabwe and the diaspora are being called to stand in solidarity with Madzibaba VeShanduko real name Godfrey Karembera, a prominent activist who continues to suffer intense physical pain and trauma after alleged torture by the Zimbabwe Republic Police during his brutal arrest in Harare on October 20. His family is urgently appealing for financial support as medical bills, rentals, school fees, and daily living expenses continue to mount.
Madzibaba, known nationwide for his peaceful civic activism and signature apostolic attire at protests, was violently arrested while exercising his democratic rights. According to witnesses and his legal representatives, he endured severe physical assault while in state custody and was later Tortured Karembera Denied Medical Attention for 48 Hours – Bail Hearing Continues at 14:15 hrs. He continues to experience ongoing pain, limited mobility, and emotional trauma directly linked to injuries sustained during detention.
With Madzibaba still incarcerated, his ability to work and provide for his family has been completely cut off. The burden of survival has now fallen on his loved ones, who are struggling to keep up with essential needs including food, shelter, children’s education, and basic household expenses. A community-led fundraiser has been launched to support his family during this crisis and ensure their stability while he remains unable to provide for them. Advocate Masiye, who organized the initiative, emphasized that while legal representation is already in place, the family urgently needs help with daily welfare and medical-related costs.
